Moonlabs Academy · for solopreneurs

AI for solopreneurs. One person, the leverage of a team.

Moonlabs is the operator-led AI Academy in Derby. We run three live companies — Homemove, home.co.uk and homedata.co.uk — and we teach twelve students per cohort to ship a real AI product, sell it to a real customer, and raise on it OR run it solo to scale. Three pillars: Coding, Commercials, Investment. Twelve weeks. £6,000.

Moonlabs is what we are. Two operators — James Freestone and Louis O’Connell-Bristow — who run Homemove, home.co.uk and homedata.co.uk. The operating model across all three is heavily leveraged AI tooling holding up work that would otherwise need three or four times the headcount. We have lived inside the solopreneur-with-leverage shape since the week ChatGPT shipped.

The Academy is what we do. A twelve-week, in-person, twelve-student cohort in Derby. You build a real AI product. You sign a paid pilot on it. You write a deck and a financial model. You leave with a deployed system, a paying customer reference and a live investor pipeline — or, for solopreneur applicants, the same artefacts pointed at your own business rather than at fundraising. Coding, Commercials, Investment — the three pillars taught in equal weight every week.

Why this page exists. The most under-told story of the AI era is the rise of the high-revenue solopreneur — one-person businesses turning over £500k+ are common, two-person businesses clearing £2m no longer remarkable. The unlock is not the AI tools themselves — everyone has access. It is the discipline of building your own AI tooling around the workflow you already understand. You leave the Academy with that tooling shipped and your own business growing.

Coding · the solopreneur AI stack, built

Sales automation, operations agents, content pipelines you actually trust, customer-service triage, financial reporting — the work that used to need five contractors. Cost discipline that survives: budget caps, model tiering, prompt caching, batch APIs. A deployed solopreneur stack by week twelve — running your business at a margin no team-based competitor can touch.

Commercials · revenue per founder, not headcount

Solopreneur economics reward leverage. A productised service at £3-5k/mo, sold ten times, is a £500k-a-year business one person can run on this stack. Pricing, discovery, a one-page pilot agreement, the first paying customer. A paid pilot by week six — or, for existing solopreneurs, a 10x in your own delivery output.

Investment · the bootstrap-or-raise choice, made deliberately

Some solopreneurs become Tiny Capital-style acquisition targets (Indie / MicroAcquire / Acquire.com; bootstrapped AI businesses now trade at 3-5x ARR). Some end up venture-shaped despite themselves — the line between "leveraged solopreneur" and "underfunded SaaS" is one paying customer wide. We teach both routes so the decision is yours. A clear thesis on which path by demo day.

FAQ

Common questions.

Am I building a SaaS at the end of this, or AI tools for my existing business?

Your call. Many solopreneur students build AI tools for the business they already run. Others use the cohort to design a SaaS they will sell. Both shapes work; the underlying disciplines are the same.

I have never coded. Can I really do this as a solo operator?

Yes. AI tooling has collapsed the on-ramp dramatically; we have taken senior non-coding professionals through to deployed product in twelve weeks. More on that here. The domain fluency of your existing business is half the work.

How does this compare to the AI course for marketers / sales / data analysts?

Those pages frame the curriculum around the role; this one frames it around the operating model. Same Academy, different default project shape: solopreneurs build for one user, not a team.

Will I learn how to scale beyond solo if I want to?

Yes — the scaling patterns are covered. The solopreneur framing is a starting point; many graduates eventually hire their first person and need the disciplines to do that without losing the leverage AI gave them.

What kinds of solopreneur projects do students build?

Past projects: a one-person consultancy with an AI proposal-writing agent that doubled output; an indie writer with an AI research-and-fact-check pipeline; a solo SaaS with full agentic customer support; a one-person e-com business with an AI inventory-and-content engine. The pattern is "leverage, not headcount".

More Academy entry points.

The Academy is one course with many doors. Each of these pages is a different entry point into the same twelve weeks.

Build it. Sell it. Raise on it (or don’t). In twelve weeks.

Tell us what your one-person business does today and what AI tooling would 10x it. James and Louis read every application personally and reply inside the week.
